This page provides you with some ideas of activities and ideas of fun things to do together at home
- At First Steps we want to always encourage the children to learn to love and love to learn, and this doesn’t stop when they leave the pre-school. We are here to support you, as parents in anyway we can to help you to continue your child’s learning and development at home. Please always talk to us if you would like some specific support or ideas for learning at home.
- You will often find resources to take home on the welcome table that will be relevant to our topic, e.g. a song we sing, a treasure hunt, craft activity, reading book suggestion. We are currently in the process of making ‘take home bags’ that will have activity ideas and all the resources you will need, for example we have a Hunger Caterpillar bag – it contains the book, question sheets, craft activities, a threading activity and other suggestions for even more activites.
- At pre-school we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, which is broken down into primary and specific areas of learning. There are three primary areas of learning: Personal, social and emotional development. Communication and language. Physical development. Then we have four specific areas of learning: Literacy. Mathematics. Understanding the world. Expressive arts and design. The activiities we suggest or have given you links to, will cover one or more of these areas of learning. A child is continually learning in their day to day lives and routines, through talking, playing, reading, asking questions, learning new skills. Learning is a natural part of a child’s development and it is fun!

- If you are concerned about your child’s speech please speak to a member of staff, alternatively look at SALT for advice.
- The NHS Justonenorfolk is a great site full of information, guidance and support for parents and your child’s development, including speech and language, toilet training, movement, emotions and more!
- The NSPCC has created Techosaurus to help you as parents teach your children about online safety. The website is full of other great information and advice on how to keep your child safe.

- The story of Mr Tongue – this is a fun little story to encourage the movement of the tongue.
- Take a look at the Woodland Trust website there are so many great ideas for outdoor activities.
- The BBC Tiny Happy People website is full of advice and activity ideas.
- Pinterest is full of great activities, especially arts and craft ideas and activities for a theme e.g. Christmas, Easter, Summer, (search for Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for the right age range).
- Activity Village is another great website to get ideas from. You can sign up and become a member if you want to access their printable sheets.
